PMM Files #187 – Making Credits Make Sense, Building the Demo Before the Deal, and When Data Is the Product

Read Time: 3.9 minutes

Thanks for reading PMM Files. A newsletter where we share five cool product marketing examples we found last week.

Let's get to it...

Example #1 - Finding the Way Back to Clarity

This is a good example of an AI repositioning that drifted, but found its way back.

We recently featured Glide, who used two homepage versions to launch their updated AI-driven GlideOS, while still offering their classic platform.

The classic homepage headline was simple and clear: Turn spreadsheets into beautiful, intelligent apps. But Glide OS went big on AI, and got vague in the process.

Now it looks like they've backtracked, with a headline that's more rooted in what made them compelling in the first place: Glide turns Excel files and Google Sheets into apps and AI agents.

Moving into the AI era? Don't forget what buyers already know and love about your product.

Example #2 - Name the Monster

We love when companies name the problem they solve.

The founder of Spellbook, an AI contract review platform, shared this fun video about the Frankenstein contract: clauses from everywhere, stitched into one horrifying document.

Not only does this make the problem feel vivid. It's fun and relevant to the time of year 👻

Example #3 - Making Credits Make Sense

Most AI pricing pages throw out a credit number and leave you guessing what means.

Synthesia translates credits into actual jobs. They break down how much work you can do with each tier, based on the number of credits purchased.

Scroll down, and a simple calculator helps you choose which plan is right for you. Over budget? Adjust the inputs and see what changes.

Example #4 - Build the Demo Before the Deal

This is an awesome launch campaign idea.

The makers of Wistia just launched Mochine, an AI video editor that uses custom video animation kits and AI to build awesome-looking videos.

With the launch of their product, they built custom motion kits for hundreds of brands. But none are customers ... yet.

The CTA: Sign up using your company email to claim your animation package.

Try clicking Airbnb and you'll see a custom motion graphics kit ready to use in Mochine. It's the perfect on-ramp, but also a great outreach tool for reps.

Today, AI can make doing this cheap. What could you build before the first call?

Example #5 - When Data Is the Product

MoltSets sells B2B contact data. So, instead of a typical product page, they’ve created this Our Data page to answer the questions a data buyer would ask.

They cover:

  • What is it?
  • What does it cost?
  • How do I use it?

Then come the trust signals - Every email gets a safety grade for how likely it is to land in an inbox. No mobile match, no charge.

Whether you believe that 'SaaS is dead' or not, it's clear that more data products are coming to feed AI. This is great inspiration for how to explain a data product and get it right.

Note: We had already written this example before learning of Adam Robinson's tragic death this week. We have been admirers of Adam and his opinions on GTM, and have featured examples of his work in past editions. We decided to keep it in as our small way of honouring his contributions to the marketing community. Our thoughts are with him and his family.
